Joint sealing with PU-50 in Quito
To begin with, we want to share our enthusiasm for being part of projects of such dimensions as the one we bring today. The architectural firm URLO Estudio has carried out a project with our PU-50 in Quito, Ecuador.
Specifically, it is a proposal that turned the property into an urban landmark and to value the importance of the corner as an articulating axis of public space at the main entrance to the Bellavista neighborhood.
The location of the building is of special relevance, since it faces the main road access to the neighborhood with a prominent slope that helps to enhance the position of the building in its environment.
As for the façade, the geometry of the lot, almost triangular in shape, leads to a significant increase in the proportion of the project’s façade. This construction positions the project as an example of innovation: a façade system composed of lightweight concrete pigmented with natural oxides.
Thanks to its characteristics, this system made it possible to design panels of 3.15 meters in height and different widths and geometries. In addition, it was possible to provide the project with an adequate constructive response to an envelope of high morphological complexity.
It is in the joint sealing of all concrete panels where our flagship product PU-50 achieves the best results..
PROPOSAL FOR SEALING JOINTS WITH SINTEX PU-50
It should be noted that we are dealing with the sealing of expansion joints in facades with high movements. Therefore, a technology capable of withstanding up to 25% of movement capacity, high elongations, as well as good elasticity and recovery power is required.
Fortunately, at Quilosa we have a sealant that meets all these requirements! Our PU-50 was the choice for the sealing of the facades of this innovative project. It is a single-component, polyurethane-based sealant that cures with ambient humidity.
Its high movement capacity, elasticity of over 400% and compatibility with most building materials make this product the best choice for the protection and guarantee of this building over the years.
Why to treat the joints?
Undoubtedly, it is of vital importance to work on the joints, since they are areas that let water, air, dust, chemical agents, etc. pass through. If they are not treated, joints in bad conditions can deteriorate the living conditions of a home, and the useful life of a building, in a much shorter time than planned.
We will now discuss the three essential functions of proper joint treatment:
- To begin with, it must produce continuity between different materials.
- It must also avoid excessive stresses.
- And finally, a well-made treatment must prevent the entry of corrosive agents.
Thanks to the joint sealing with PU-50 we are convinced that this project will have a long service life.
We hope you liked our reference work. But if you still have doubts about the best type of sealant for your next project, please contact our specialists and they will be happy to help you!
